Rialto Capital's senior management team has experience investing in and managing real estate throughout multiple economic cycles and is supported by over 200 associates in 13 offices across the U.S. and Europe.
Mr. Cueto is Managing Director of the Real Estate Group at Rialto Capital Advisors, LLC with leadership of the United States and Puerto Rico. He joined Rialto Capital in 2011 and has 20 years of experience in the real estate field. He is currently responsible for a portfolio of real estate assets consisting of direct investments, joint ventures, non-performing loan REO and CMBS REO (as part of Rialto Capital’s Special Servicing platform).
Prior to joining Rialto Capital, Mr. Cueto was the Executive Director of American Realty Capital, in Miami, Florida, with responsibility for asset management and day-to-day operations of ARC’s portfolio of real estate investment projects. Prior to that, Mr. Cueto’s endeavors focused on public sector planning, economic development and commercial asset management as Director of Planning and Development for the Miami Parking Authority, handling all capital construction and real estate asset management functions; and as Property Development Supervisor for Miami-Dade Transit, responsible for managing mixed-use, transit-oriented development (TOD) projects in conjunction with the private sector.
Mr. Cueto graduated from Florida International University with a B.B.A. in Finance and International Business. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Financial Training at Miami-Dade College and is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Mr. Davis is a Managing Director in the Commercial Property Group based in Atlanta. Prior to joining Rialto, Mr. Davis spent 11 years at NorthStar Realty Finance Corp. where he was a Managing Director and held a number of roles over time including head of its Los Angeles office and Co-Head of the Investments Group. While at NorthStar, Mr. Davis was a board member of SteelWave, an owner and developer of office and multi-family properties.
Prior to NorthStar, Mr. Davis worked in the Global Principal Investments Group at Merrill Lynch for 6 years. Mr. Davis received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and is a CFA Charter holder.
Mr. England joined Rialto in 2021 as the company’s Chief Credit Officer. As the Chief Credit Officer, Mr. England is responsible for the commercial underwriting, approval and closing of fixed and floating rate lending targeted for CMBS, CLO or balance sheet execution, credit procedures and administration, and commercial portfolio analytics.
Mr. England has 24 years of real estate and banking experience, including serving as the Chief Credit Officer and Head of C-III Commercial Mortgage since 2010. Mr. England’s background includes commercial loan origination, underwriting, securitization, CDO & CLO management, fund management and B-piece investing.
He previously worked for Centerline Capital Group, Nomura Securities and JP Morgan. Mr. England received a B.A. in Economics from Pomona College.
Mr. Griffin is a Managing Director of the Equity Investment Management Group based in California and oversees investment and asset management in the Western part of the US. Since joining Rialto Capital Management, LLC in 2011, Mr. Griffin has been involved in over $2 billion of direct real estate investments and financings across all property types.
In addition to leading West Coast acquisitions, Mr. Griffin manages Rialto’s asset-level financing activities on new acquisitions and oversees Rialto’s multifamily investing strategy across various investment vehicles, nationwide. Prior to assuming his most recent role in April 2017, Mr. Griffin was based in Rialto’s New York office and was responsible for sourcing, underwriting and structuring debt and equity investments across the firm’s various real estate funds and separate accounts.
Mr. Griffin joined Rialto in the summer of 2011 upon obtaining his MBA in real estate and finance from Columbia Business School. Prior to attending Columbia Business School, from 2005 to 2009, Mr. Griffin worked in various capacities at Macerich, a major mall REIT located in Santa Monica, CA including Leasing Manager for various upscale regional malls in the portfolio. Mr. Griffin is a graduate of UCLA with a BA in International Relations.
Liat (Feldman) Heller
Ms. Heller joined Rialto in 2011 as the Company’s General Counsel. Ms. Heller is Rialto’s chief legal officer with oversight responsibility for all regulatory and compliance matters. Prior to Rialto, Ms. Heller served as senior counsel in the New York office of APG Asset Management, the investment arm of a $250 billion European pension fund active in real estate, private equity and fixed income.
From 2006 to 2010, Ms. Heller held roles of increasing responsibility at APG, serving as a lead attorney structuring and negotiating private equity and hedge fund investments. Ms. Heller’s responsibilities included conducting due diligence, drafting and negotiating a broad range of agreements for complex financial transactions as well as the restructuring of investments in financially distressed funds. During her tenure at APG, Ms. Heller worked closely with the heads of the business units regarding strategic and tactical planning.
Previously, Ms. Heller served as an associate in the Boston and New York offices of Ropes and Gray from 2001 to 2006, negotiating various corporate agreements and legal transactions including mergers, acquisitions, securities offerings and loan transactions. Ms. Heller received a B.A. and graduated cum laude from Yale University, and earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
Mr. Horowitz serves as a Managing Director of Rialto Capital Advisors, LLC. He oversees the restructuring and resolution of non-performing CMBS, High Yield and other distressed loans. He has been with Rialto Capital since 2009.
Mr. Horowitz is a real estate professional with over 14 years’ experience in commercial and residential real estate development, finance and investment.
Prior to joining Rialto, Mr. Horowitz focused on acquiring non-performing commercial real estate loans, as well as managing a real estate portfolio for Turnberry Capital, LLC.
Mr. Horowitz graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in Communications Management and in Political Science.
Mr. Lindner began working with Rialto in March 2010 and is currently a Managing Director of Credit Investments. Prior to Rialto, he worked at Anglo Irish Bank in the firm’s commercial real estate finance group in New York City, focused on originating, underwriting, structuring and syndicating over $2 billion of loans secured by office, multifamily, retail, condominium and industrial assets.
Mr. Lindner was also engaged in the asset management of Anglo Irish Bank’s on-balance sheet loans, including quarterly valuations, monitoring loan performance against underwriting and re-structuring where necessary. Prior to Anglo Irish Bank, Mr. Lindner worked in leasing and investment sales at NAI New York City, where he executed all aspects of the acquisition and disposition of real estate assets for their institutional clients.
Mr. Lindner also worked as a Legislative Aide for the New York State Senate. Mr. Lindner holds a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech).
Mr. Orban joined Rialto in 2015 and serves as a Managing Director on the Investment Management team, which includes structured credit and equity investing.
Prior to joining Rialto, Mr. Orban spent nine years, most recently as a principal, at Glenmont Capital Management, a real estate private equity firm focused on opportunistic, middle market investments throughout the United States.
At Glenmont, Mr. Orban was responsible for sourcing and executing opportunistic investments across all real estate asset types on behalf of the firm’s discretionary investment vehicles and completed in excess of $1 billion in total transactions. Prior to joining Glenmont, Mr. Orban was an assistant vice president at The Weitzman Group, a boutique real estate advisory firm that worked with private sector developers, pension and private equity funds, institutions and government agencies. At The Weitzman Group, Mr. Orban focused on investment analysis and advisory on behalf of a large pension fund seeking to make direct investments in commercial real estate. Mr. Orban received his B.S. from Cornell University with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate.
Mr. Peskin joined Rialto in 2011 and currently serves as a Managing Director of Credit Investments. He is primarily responsible for the origination, structuring and execution of commercial real estate debt investments with a focus on transitional lending, non-performing loans and special situations.
Mr. Peskin formerly worked at Ernst and Young LLP, where he earned a CPA License. Mr. Peskin graduated with an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Accounting from Lehigh University.
Ms. Rukes joined Rialto in 2013 to lead our human capital strategies in attracting, rewarding, engaging and developing top industry talent that delivers our strategic, financial and operating objectives. Ms. Rukes is an international Human Resources executive with a 20-year record of success in private equity firms and publicly traded corporations, including Fortune 50, in the United States, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. She is an Advisory Board Member to the Center for Human Resources Management at Florida State University’s College of Business.
Prior to joining Rialto, Ms. Rukes was Chief Human Resources Officer of LNR Property Corporation. Prior to LNR, she was Managing Partner of R&R Property Investments. She began her Human Resources career at Verizon Communications, and later joined PepsiCo, where she served as VP HR for Frito Lay’s operations in Spain and as VP HR for Pepsi Cola’s South America & Caribbean market unit. Throughout her career, Ms. Rukes has consulted to a variety of publicly traded, privately held and non-profit organizations in a broad range of HR specialties.
Ms. Rukes holds an MBA and an MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of South Florida, and a BS in Psychology from Florida State University with related coursework at Cornell University. She is also a graduate of the National Academy of Human Resources’ Chief HR Officer Academy. Ms. Rukes is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional, and holds both the Senior and Global Professional certifications with the Human Resources Certification Institute.
Mr. Sebastian joined Rialto in 2016 as the Company’s Chief Information Officer.
Mr. Sebastian oversees the IT department and is responsible for the architecture, development, security and management of technology and data platforms.
Prior to joining Rialto, from 2013 to 2016, Mr. Sebastian was SVP of Technology at Nielsen, where he was responsible for strategic technology client engagements and open data product development. From 2006 to 2013, Mr. Sebastian was with Citibank, where he led the global ATM software organization and digital programs for consumer and commercial credit card businesses. From 1995 to 2006, Mr. Sebastian was with GE Healthcare, where he held several global information technology and product development leadership roles, including leading global sales and service IT platforms, as well as enterprise architecture.
Mr. Sebastian holds an MBA from Marquette University and a B.S. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Kerala in India.
Niral Shah serves as a Managing Director, Special Servicing of Rialto Capital Advisors, LLC, with active oversight of CMBS Special Servicing operations and responsible for performing loan consents, surveillance of Rialto Capital’s named special servicing portfolio, CMBS compliance and investor reporting/loan administration.
Ms. Shah joined Rialto Capital in 2009. Prior to joining Rialto Capital, she worked for Lennar Corporation as of 2006 as a member of the Corporate Investment Committee (CIC). In this role, Ms. Shah was responsible for underwriting all land purchases and managing assets in Florida and Texas. Ms. Shah was also a key member of a special projects team directly accountable to Lennar’s CEO and Senior Executives.
Ms. Shah holds an MBA from the University of Miami, and a B.A. in Economics from Emory University.
Mr. Striker joined Rialto Management Capital, LLC in 2017 and is a Managing Director spearheading direct lending initiatives and originations.
He has 14 years of experience steering and executing strategies in real estate finance and has closed over $6 billion of transactions across all tiers of the real estate capital structure encompassing a broad spectrum of asset classes. Most recently he worked at UBS Investment Bank for the last 11 years where he was a founding member of the real estate finance business and played key roles in the group’s inception in 2006 and post-recession re-build in 2010.
Prior to UBS, Mr. Striker worked at Eurohypo AG, a German real estate investment banking boutique, and Nomura Securities International, a Japanese bank. He is a graduate of Cornell University and Columbia Business School.
Mr. Tian joined Rialto in 2018 and currently serves as a Managing Director of Credit Investments. His main focuses include Rialto’s CMBS B-piece business, CMBS trading, loan structuring, and the credit diligence process.
Prior to joining Rialto, Mr. Tian spent 6 years at LibreMax Capital, a structured credit asset management firm. He focused on sourcing, conducting credit diligence, and executing investments in commercial and residential MBS and loan sectors across various long-only and hedge fund strategies.
Mr. Tian received his dual B.S. in Economics and Engineering and M.A. in Mathematics from University of Pennsylvania in 2012 with summa cum laude.
Marshall Van Smith
Mr. Van Smith joined Rialto in 2013 and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Van Smith previously served as the Company’s Director of Tax from 2013 to 2018, prior to becoming the Company’s Chief Financial Officer.
Throughout his tenure at Rialto, Mr. Van Smith has been heavily involved with fund structuring, fund administration, and investor matters in addition to his role as the head of tax. These varying responsibilities, have led to his extensive involvement with all groups within Rialto including asset managers, investor relations, accounting, treasury, legal, and compliance. Prior to Rialto, Mr. Van Smith spent 11 years with various public accounting firms in increasing roles of responsibility. Mr. Van Smith’s client base included investment and asset managers, developers, and financial institutions.
Mr. Van Smith provided the following services to his clients: audit, tax, internal control testing, and planning/consulting. Mr. Van Smith is a Certified Public Accountant and received a B.S. and master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Florida.
Ms. Vega joined Rialto in 2019 as the Company’s Chief Compliance Officer with oversight of regulatory and compliance matters of the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) registered investment adviser Rialto Capital Management, LLC. Prior to Rialto, Ms. Vega served as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer of the Real Estate Group at The Blackstone Group in New York, New York with responsibility for the compliance program across the groups 11 SEC registered investment advisors.
Prior to that, Ms. Vega held roles of increasing responsibility in the Governance, Risk and Regulatory practice at Deloitte & Touche, LLP. From 2010 to 2016, Ms. Vega provided regulatory, compliance and operational consulting to clients in the financial services industry. Prior to Deloitte & Touche, LLP, Ms. Vega was an examiner with NYSE Regulation, later renamed FINRA. Ms. Vega received a B.A. from New York University and earned a M.S.L. in Corporate Compliance from Fordham University School of Law.
